Classical
For its fifth season the Classe d'Excellence de Violoncelle selects on the basis of application files then live audition 6 young talented cellists from around the world.
They will be invited every month from October 2018 to June 2019 to a series of three day sessions with Gautier Capuçon in the Auditorium of the Fondation Louis Vuitton.

Concert in homage to Jean-Michel Basquiat

The conductor and composer Matthias Pintscher, along with Bryce Dessner and the soloists of the Ensemble Intercontemporain, will present a new programme inspired by the work and life of Jean-Michel Basquiat. An “oddly beautiful” musical journey, to quote Basquiat himself, featuring the work of John Cage, George Crumb, Yann Robin and Bryce Dessner as well as a new piece by Matthias Pintscher.

Alexander Malofeev is a young Russian pianist, mostly famous with his outstanding appearance at the 8th International Tchaikovsky Competition for young musicians (2014), where he won the 1st Prize and attained the overall recognition. In 2016 Alexander Malofeev won the Grand Prix of the International Competition for Young Pianists «Grand Piano Competition».

21 year-old pianist Albert Cano Smit is the First Prize winner of the 2017 Walter W. Naumburg Piano Competition. He has performed as soloist and chamber musician across Europe and America, and has been praised for playing "with the maturity of someone three times his age" (CBC Music), for his "dazzling technical and emotional dexterity" (DNA) and musicianship "a superb musician has spoken" (Le Devoir).

As part of Michel Dalberto’s series of live recordings of French music across Europe, and following his performances of work by Claude Debussy in Mantua and Venice, César Franck in Liège and Gabriel Fauré in Paris, Dalberto will perform pieces by Ravel at the Fondation Louis Vuitton.

Jean-Paul Gasparian began 2018 as a last-minute replacement for the famous pianist Christian Zacharias, playing Mozart’s Concerto no. 24 in Germany with the great Austrian conductor Leopold Hager. This year has also seen the release of his first CD in February, on the Évidence Classics label. This disc of Russian music has received unanimous praise in the press.
